ALUMNI

Over the years, our lab as trained and developed scientists who are now doing exciting things in Academia and beyond.

Graduate students

Dr Alexandroz Chatzis

Alexandros did his PhD under the mentoring of Dr Ioannis Kourtzelis and  Dr Boucher, working on macrophage innate training, efferocytosis, the inflammasome, and cancer. He did his viva in early 2025 and is not working with Elsevier in scientific publishing.

Publication: Trained innate Immunity attenuates macrophage efferocytosis of cancer cells

Mr Alexander Hogg

Alex did a Master by Research in the Boucher lab and was co-supervised by Dr. Jillian Barlow . He identify a new inflammasome in human NK cells. His work led to a MRC NIRG grant. He worked as a research technician in the Kent lab on various industry-related projects and is currently a technician in the Boucher lab (co-supervised by Dr Jillian Barlow)  funded by an industry-based collaboration.

Miss Jadie Acklam

Jadie did a Master by Research with Dr Jillian Barlow and Prof. Alison Layton and was trained in the Boucher lab. She is currently a PhD student with Dr Jillian Barlow and Prof Ian Hitchcock, at the University of York.

Dr Georgia Bateman

Georgia did a a Master by Research in the Boucher lab, working on new caspase substrates. She then moved to do a PhD with Prof Cliff Taggard at the Queen's University Belfast. She is not a Potdoctoral Research in Dublin.

Mx Kassandra Vezirgianni

Kass did their Master's by Research in the Boucher lab, co-supervised by Dr. Ioannis Kourtzelis. They investigated the regulation of the non-canonical inflammasome. They are now Research Assistants in Dr. Alice Denton's lab at Imperial College London.

Publication: Caspase-4 is a IL1B converting enzyme

Mr Arnel Villamin

Arnel did a Master's by Research in the Boucher lab, co-supervised by Dr Kim Robinson. He is now a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh..

Mr Timur Ozdenya

Tim did his capstone project (BSc Biochemistry, University of York) in the Boucher lab and continued as a Master's by Research student, working on the connections between cell death pathways. He works as a Business Development Manager for Global Data Healthcare in London.

Dr Benjamin Savidge

Ben was a research assistant in the Boucher lab, funded by a Springboard Award (Boucher lab, Wellcome-Trust, Academy of Medical Sciences). He is now a STEM teacher.

Integrated Masters and undergraduate students

Miss Catherine Harper

Catherine did her integrated master's project in the Boucher lab, co-supervised by Dr Nathan Leborgne. She investigated a novel cell-autonomous immunity mechanism.

She is now a PhD student at the University of Oxford with Prof Dame Fioana Powrie.

Miss Ruth Gibbons

Ruth did her integrated master project in the Boucher lab, investigating cross-talk between cell death modalities.

Miss Ella Kahofer

Ella did her integrated master's project in the Boucher lab, investigating mechanisms controlling caspase activity during inflammation.

Mr Adam Sung

Adam did his integrated master project in the Boucher lab, investigating host-pathogen interactions between human and Salmonella
